Wealthy old medieval lady - Pt10 - Textures in Unreal Engine

Work In Progress / 10 September 2020

So I am making good headway on this project, moving steadily forward. All the shaders are more or less wrapped up, and I have reached a point everything except for her rings blocked out.

So what is left to do:

  • A secondary pass on all the textures
  • Bake and texture her Rings
  • Secondary pass on the Hair
  • Pose
  • And lastly render and wrap it up

I would love some feedback on the colors, here I have a different variant, but I am not certain if it is a bit to much gold.

Thanks for taking a look!

Wealthy old medieval lady - Pt9 - Low poly in Unreal Engine

Work In Progress / 06 September 2020

So since last I have now retopoed and Baked all the parts of the body and her dress. I ported it all in to UE4 and now it is all about finishing up the last bits and pieces so I can render her out.

I have noticed that I also need to check up more on UE4s lighting for the presentation later.

So a quick check list of what is left to do:

  • Texture the Dress and all the appendages
  • Make a proper cloth shader and Gem shader
  • Do a secondary pass on the hair and her head texture.
  • Pose her and do something with the groundplane
  • Last but not least, light her nicely and finish her off.

Wealthy old medieval lady - Pt8 - Rise of the game ready mesh

General / 05 August 2020

A small update this one, but I have finally retopoed the head parts and test baked them and got them in to Unreal. I also made a basic skin shader, got her eyes in and a preliminary hair. So all my pipeline work is more or less done now.

What is next is to retopo the rest of the body and clothes, Unwrap and bake it, create a proper cloth shader, and then go over all the textures, and refine her hair.

Wealthy old medieval lady - Pt7 - Finished highpoly

Making Of / 22 July 2020

This have been a long time coming, as I have not had a dedicated time to work on this more than evenings since March, and I also have been stuck in design hell where I am trying to figure things out, going back and forth between tiny elements. But this project have been more chill and I am trying to just take it on my own pace. The goal being to learn some new stuff and having fun. Finally  I feel as I am done with the Highpoly, I might add some tiny detail like a tiny medallion or something, maybe I will remove the embroidered sewn on pieces on the front of the dress. But all of that will come when I start to make the lowpoly and start to play with the final result.

So what have happened since the latest update, I have altered the shape a bit as I got feedback, I finished the hands, I made some rings, I fixed up and detailed her cape. And tiny details all over the place and minor tweaks which are to many to keep a track of since March.

Here are some pictures.

Wealthy old medieval lady - Pt6 - The rise of the Dress

General / 06 March 2020

So since my last post a lot have happened for me. But on this project, things are going slowly, I am shipping away at it with the time I have. But the biggest bottleneck right now is all the detail designing. Like the embroidery and jewelry. That is what takes the longest time, but it is also kind of fun and relaxing to do. So I am not rushing through it. But I am getting tired of this project so I need to wrap it up soon.

What I have left to do now, is to make the Necklace, embroidery on the arm, her hands and then finish of her Cape. So I am getting close to the finish line for the highpoly.

Thanks for watching!

So I have started on the dress. I got some details left to figure out and design. Like the front I don't know yet if I want embroided details, or something more like an attached patterned piece. Either way I need to figure that out. But all the secondary details of the dress are there now. I just need to get the design and polish the highpoly. After that I got the hands, Jewelry, Cape and the bottom part of the dress left of the sculpt.

Neck details.

Next update will be in a weeks time =) Thanks for following my progress!

Wealthy old medieval lady - Pt4

General / 13 February 2020

So I have recently been gunning to finish of her face. I have been sick for a week and my sister have been over for 5 days. But I got most of it done, still a little bit of detailing left to do as well as a little bit of cleanup. I added hair that was a bit more closer to what I want the final to be, but that will be with haircards so this is just a second blockout.

So this is where she is at now.

For the next update it will be on to the dress. I have been wanting to detail it for so long, it will be great.

Wealthy old medieval lady - Pt3

Work In Progress / 04 February 2020

A shorter update from last time.

I have made tons of progress on the head wear. I am not certain about all the details but in general I am happy with the jewelry, and the shape of the head wear. I might add some details, or maybe change the trim. I also did another pass on the face. I am starting to get to a place where I am happy with the primary and secondary forms, so I might start detailing her soon.

The jewelry

The face with Headwear

To do next is to get a better blockout of the hair, and maybe add earrings. From there it is time to detail the face to finish up the highpoly there.

Wealthy old medieval Lady Pt2

Work In Progress / 29 January 2020

So I am back on the art grind again.

I have gone over the design of the old hag and now I have found a direction I am more pleased with.
I started of by making some simple paint-overs, and a lot of reference searching to find a design direction I enjoy both working with but would be cool.

At the end I landed on something aking to this sketch:

It is quite simple but it translates what I want to get done, so I started blocking it out in Marvelous designer, where I scratched my first iteration and took the lessons learned.

From there I have taken it in to Zbrush and started blocking more elements out.
I have also started to get the head more in to a finished position.

What is coming up next is to finish the jewelry and the hat on the head. As I will use that as a testing ground for some decoration techniques I want to try out, and the jewelry will be quite a demanding piece.

Hopefully next update will be a bit sooner than this one have been from my previous one.

New project, Wealthy old medieval Lady

General / 11 October 2019

I am creating this blog to have somewhere to try to get feedback as well as a way for me to put up my progress other than Polycount. I am going to post both here as well on my Polycount thread which can be found "Here"

So I have decided to start a new project after a long break from doing 3D other than freelance work. I have spent the past 2 months renovating my apartment and that have been a great experience, but now I am back to the sweet process of making 3D art.

This project will be my own design so I am not following any concepts.

The goals are as follows:

  • To design my own character from scratch
  • Make a realistic character that could fit in a AAA title like the Witcher 3
  • Get better at Marvelous Designer
  • Learn Blender, so I am not allowed to use Maya for anything.
  • And by the end of it have a new portfolio piece.

Along the way I will try some new techniques and try to have as much fun as possible.

What is next for me to do a paintover of the 3D concept so I can refine some ideas some more and try out like jewelry placement, tweaking the volumes of shapes and so forth.

I am looking forward to share the next update on this blog, until then thanks for reading this far!
